Today in BLACK Her-story Lana Michele Moorer was born in Brooklyn, New York. Better known in the entertainment world as MC Lyte. Her 1993 single "Ruffneck" from the album "Ain't No Other" was the first gold single ever for a female rap artist.

Hazel Johnson Brown, the United States first African American female general, first African American chief of the Army Nurse Corps and Director of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Nursing was born on October 10, 1927 in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

1932—The first Black daily newspaper, the ATLANTA DAILY WORLD, began publication. The paper was founded by Atlanta's own William A. Scott III.
Jean Baptiste Point du Sable
It is believed that on this date, March 13, 1773, Jean Baptiste Point du Sable established the area that is now known as Chicago, Illinois.
Jean Baptiste Point du Sable was a free, landowning, wealthy trader of color, who was born around or before the year 1750 in Haiti. 
He later moved to St. Charles, Missouri where he remained until he died on August 28,1818.
His name is honored around the windy city on a bridge, museum, park and in other areas. 
March 13, 1773, Chicago, Illinois was founded by Jean Baptiste Point du Sable.
This is said to be the house he built and lived in until he relocated to Missouri.
